For  the early  10 tooth gear style D- series  Alco Brass model. Such as  RSC-4,5  RS-2,

I believe i used 2 on RSD15 . It depends on how the ratio is set for gearing.

Brass Locomotive HO Scale Early D-series Repair. Common failure item.

1 each of the 10 tooth new idler gear for replacement to press on shaft repair.

Sorry, but due to maintenance skills required, I’m not accepting returns for damage to gear.

It is a somewhat  sensitive task, and if pressed onto the shaft crooked, it will damage the new replacement gear.

I have repaired 3 locomotive with the same problem, and it worked each time.

Take one at a time gear tower off the truck to allow straight on access and to start onto idler shaft with fingers.

The gear doesn’t need to be glued or fixed onto the shaft it doesn’t drive this shaft it just transfers the power to next gear. I used channel locks adjusted for a  straight squeeze all the way until contact with the bushing shoulder.

the press fit will be held  as needed for the repair. Fixing onto the shaft just adds trouble for repair

If you’re looking at a 10 tooth gear Alco model, this is your replacement it drives the truck gear.
